What "unlimited" means on a travel eSIM
Every unlimited travel plan has a daily full-speed allowance and a slower speed after it. Here is exactly how ours works and who it is for.
No mobile plan on earth is unlimited at full speed forever, and travel eSIMs are no exception. What "unlimited" means in practice is: a daily allowance at full speed, then a slower speed for the rest of the day, and it never cuts off. The differences between providers are in the size of the allowance and how slow "slower" is.
How ours works
- 3 GB per day at full 4G/5G speed. That is a lot: about six hours of Instagram, or two hours of HD video, or a full day of maps, messaging, photos and a couple of video calls.
- After 3 GB, the speed drops to 1 Mbps until the daily allowance resets.
- It resets every day for the length of your plan. A 7-day plan gives you seven full-speed allowances.
- Hotspot is allowed and counts against the same allowance.
What 1 Mbps actually feels like
Maps, WhatsApp, email, web browsing and music streaming all work normally. Instagram loads with a short pause on videos. YouTube plays at 360p or 480p after buffering. HD video and large downloads are where it hurts. It is roughly the speed of a slow hotel Wi-Fi, which is to say usable, not pleasant.
Who should buy unlimited
- People working from the road who cannot afford to run out mid-call.
- Anyone streaming or making long video calls daily.
- Families sharing one phone's hotspot.
- Anyone who just does not want to check a usage meter.
Who should not
If your evenings are on hotel Wi-Fi and your days are maps and messages, a 5 GB or 10 GB plan costs less and you will never hit the limit. Look at the how much data do I need guide before paying for unlimited out of caution.

Common questions
What time does the daily allowance reset?
Once a day, on the network's daily cycle rather than at a set local time. Your order page shows usage for the current day.
Can I buy more full-speed data after hitting 3 GB?
Not for the same day. The next day resets it. If you regularly need more than 3 GB a day at full speed, a large fixed plan (20 GB) may suit you better.
Does unlimited work on both Smart and Globe?
Yes. Same networks as the fixed plans.
Install in about a minute. No app, no account. Your plan starts when you land.
